Choosing Treats

DID YOU KNOW…

The treats you choose for your pets DO matter. The wrong treats, and too many of them, can cause a multitude of health problems ranging from skin allergies to obesity. However, giving a nutritious treat is a great positive reinforcement to use during behavior training, which will also strengthen the bond you share with your pet. With a dizzying array of treats available, it may be challenging to find one to meet your pets individual needs and requirements. Dental chews that are given the American Veterinary Dental Association seal are the only ones that we can truly recommend.  (Visit  http://www.avdc.org/ownersinfo.html for the best information on veterinary dentistry.)  For the pet on a weight loss plan, fresh green vegetables like beans and broccoli can be used as treats. Hypoallergenic treats are also available to avoid exposure to food elements that can trigger a reaction.  Our baseline stance on treats is “Less is more,”  and use only when teaching your pet a desired behavior.
